Drug uses
Zopiclone is a prescription-only sleeping pill. It is prescribed for short-term treatment (two to four weeks) of severe or distressing sleeping problems (insomnia) in adults over the age of 18.How taken
Zopiclone is for oral use only.
Take a dose at bedtime. Don't take it unless you have at least 8 hours to dedicate to sleeping.
It should be taken in a single intake and not be re-operated during the one night. Treatment should be as short as possible and should not exceed four weeks including the period of tapering off (if used for long periods, treatment should be withdrawn gradually).
Take exactly as prescribed, 7.5 mg by oral administration shortly before sleeping for a maximum of 2-4 weeks, never take Zopiclone during your normal waking hours. This dose should not be exceeded. Use the lowest effective dose. Depending on clinical response, the dose may be lowered to 3.75 mg.
Don't abuse the drug or violate the doctor's instructions, otherwise It's possible to become dependent on zopiclone.
Contraindications
Zopiclone is contraindicated in children.
Don't take Zopiclone if you have any of the following symptoms:
- if you have a known hypersensitivity to zopiclone or any of the excipients;
- if you previously experienced complex sleep behaviours after taking zopiclone;
- severe breathing problems;
- if your breathing stops for short periods while you sleep (sleep apnea syndrome);
- acute cerebrovascular accident;
- myasthenia gravis;

Warnings/Precautions
Talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse before taking Zopiclone tablets if you:
- have any kidney or liver problems
- suffer from mild breathing problems
- taken Zopiclone or other similar medicines for more than 4 weeks
- have a history of mental illness
- have or have ever had a history of, or tendency to alcohol or drug abuse or personality disorders. The risk of dependence to Zopiclone tablets (physical or mental effects produced by a compulsion to keep taking the medicine) increases in these patients, and with dose and length of treatment.

Possible side effects
Like all medicines, Zopiclone may cause some side effects.
Just because a side effect is stated here doesn't mean that all people taking zopiclone will experience that or any side effect – medicines affect people in different ways.
The most common side effects (affect 5-10 in 100 people):
- Feeling sleepy the next day. Don't drive or operate machines if you still feel sleepy;
- Change in taste, such as a metallic or bitter taste;
- Dry mouth.
Uncommon side effects (affect 5-10 in 1000 people):
- Headache, dizziness;
- Feeling sick or vomiting;
- Feeling agitated, nightmares.
You're less likely to experience side effects if you go to bed straight after taking Zopiclone.

Overdose
Symptoms of overdose may include: slow/shallow breathing, a deep sleep from which you cannot be awakened.
Overdose of Zopiclone can be manifested by varying degrees of CNS depression ranging from drowsiness to coma according to the quantity ingested. In mild cases, symptoms include drowsiness, confusion and lethargy.
In more severe cases, symptoms may include ataxia, hypotonia, hypotension, methaemoglobinaemia, respiratory depression and coma.
Overdosage could be life threatening when combined with other CNS depressants, including alcohol. Other risk factors, such as the presence of concomitant illness and the debilitated state of the patient, may contribute to the severity of symptoms and very rarely can result in fatal outcome.
